Paper Choice - Daniel Ernst - Adventure and Outdoor Photographer

All prints are done with archival pigment ink to ensure highest quality and age resistance. To ensure your print remains in pristine condition please use care in handling printed material, surface susceptible to abrasion (especially Photo Rag). If stored, use only archive quality envelopes, folders, and boxes. For mounting and framing, please use only archive grade tapes and glues.

What paper to choose?

Hahnemühle Fine Art Photo Rag (premium paper / matte / 308gsm)

Hahnemühle Photo Rag is one of the Industries benchmark for fine art photographic prints regarding density, colour gamut, colour graduation and image sharpness while preserving the special touch and feel of genuine art paper. The white cotton paper has a characteristic, wonderfully soft feel with a lightly defined felt structure, lending each artwork a three-dimensional appearance and depth. This acid- and lignin-free paper meets the requirements for age resistance and is specially designed for FineArt applications.

>My favorite paper for all sorts of images. Ideal for mounting without glas to preserve the beauty of the paper but also beautiful for framing. Suitable for all sorts of rooms due to the matte surface. High sharpness, deep blacks and beautiful color reproduction.

Hahnemühle Fine Art Pearl (premium paper / pearl finish / 285 gsm)

Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl is a cellulose-based paper with a bright white tone. The paper has a delicately textured surface and a smooth, silky feel which produces an elegant finish with a subtle, pearl-gloss effect. The paper impresses with outstanding reproduction of colour and detail, deep blacks and striking contrasts. The acid- and lignin-free meets the most requirements for age resistance.

>Similar to the Photo Rag with a more vivid and contrast appearance - ideal for framing and mounting. Due to the glossy surface it might not be suitable for all rooms - especially those with direct light pointed straight onto the paper. I recommend this paper when a lot of bright parts are on the image, otherwise you might have too many reflections.

Canon Pro Premium Matte Paper (entry level / matte / 210 gsm)
Canon Pro Premium Matte paper is a smooth texture inkjet paper with a warm white tone for prints without the reflective sheen.

>Cheaper option compared to the Fine Art papers. Thick paper with a plain feel, no texture and matte surface thus suitable for all sorts of rooms and light situations. Ideal for a cheaper option for framing. Warm color reproduction, great contrast and sharpness.
